The development of MYSHELF, began with a fundamental understanding of what a shelf does beyond its physical form. The shelf functions as a spatial tool that allows creative order and segmentation, the design enables both storage and display through structured arrangement.
The mission of this thesis is to implement a new
platform with the aim of achieving authentic dwelling in the digital environment.
As digital technologies increasingly shape
the ways in which individuals live, communicate, and express identity, the concept of “dwelling” must be re-evaluated beyond its traditional architectural and spatial definitions.

// LAURAS SHELF - Memories of Carmen
The first shelf belongs to Laura, a mother grieving the loss of her own mother, Carmen. To honour her memory, Laura created a digital shelf on MYSHELF, curating objects from Carmen’s home—personal items, keepsakes, and furniture that reflected her life.
More than a collection, the shelf became a digital space where memory, identity, and history converge. It invites not only Laura’s children but anyone who visits to understand who Carmen was through the meaningful traces she left behind.

// RINALDO’S SHELF - Digital Sanctuary
The second shelf belongs to Rinaldo, a man shaped by a lifelong commitment to critical thinking and deep reading. For him, the digital shelf serves not as a memorial but as a conceptual workspace: a space for intellectual engagement. It contains philosophical texts, annotated articles, excerpts, and visual references that together form an ecosystem of thought. Each item is intentionally placed to spark reflection and connection.
The shelf becomes a sanctuary for thinking: a modular system for arranging ideas in a spatial, contemplative format. Rinaldo’s use recalls the sensibility of the flâneur: a digital wanderer assembling fragments of insight through deliberate arrangement.

To replicate this function in a digital context,a grid-based system was introduced.
The grid, much like the physical shelf, organises space into manageable units. Using Gridstack.js, a flexible JavaScript library, a 6x6 layout was implemented.
